Red Pepper in Rotterdam

We were so disappointed by Red Pepper after reading the reviews of great food with heaping portions. We waited 35 minutes to even see a menu (even then we had to ask to see it), and it was 45 minutes before we had our drink order taken (also had to flag down our server for that). When our drinks finally arrived over an hour into our dinner experience, we had to ASK to order our food. We were so hungry by this point that we ordered the full portions and when they eventually arrived, they were so small, we were certain they gave us half or child sized portions. The restaurant is not exactly what I would call expensive, but for a small scoop of rice with a few pieces of chicken and peanuts, it was VERY pricey. To add insult to injury, when we went to pay our bill up front (we would still be sitting there had we waited for it) they charged us 5 extra euro for consuming the water on the table. If our server had been at all attentive, we would have gladly asked for a second round of drinks, but because the food was typically spicy and the kroepoek was complimentary, we assumed the water was as well in this case, but to be charged 5 euro for a spa blauw bottle filled with tap water was outrageous. Our coats were not hung, the wait staff was unfriendly and in some instances rude (one rolled her eyes at us when we tried to call her over) and the entire restaurant smelled of sweat. We would have left immediately except we read great reviews and thought we would give it a shot. Now after presumably getting ripped off with tiny portions and having to pay the full portion price (we ended up having to go to another restaurant for a SECOND dinner after 2.5 hours of waiting and disappointment at Red Pepper) we are definitely spreading the word. Don't make our mistake. Dine anywhere else in town, but not at Red Pepper.
